ACCESS TO GERMAN PARISH RECORDS: An introduction to the German records which are available through the Family History Centre and suggestions of what tools are necessary for successful results in researching your German ancestors.

APPRENTICES IN ENGLAND: A description of he English apprenticeship system and how you can find the records of your ancestors training for their livings. The lecture covers trade, poor and charity apprentices, the many records and how they are accessed.

BC GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY (BCGS) RESOURCE CENTRE: Utilizing some of the materials found at the Resource Centre of BCGS.

CAN YOU PROVE THAT? STANDARDS OF PROOF FOR FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH: Examine qualities of evidence and apply standards of proof. Develop and practice data interpretation and assessment techniques that help you place each piece of evidence on the continuum of proof.

CANADIAN CHURCH RECORDS - VPL: Explore the records associated with major Canadian church denominations. This workshop will begin with a look at Canadian church history and record-keeping practices, followed by an overview of major repositories and strategies for locating records.

CLOVERDALE GENEALOGY COLLECTION - CANADIAN HERITAGE: The Cloverdale Library holds Western Canada's largest, Canadian family history collection. Our records cover close to four hundred years, but even if your people arrived here in more recent times, there could be something for you. Come and discover all that we have to offer during this session: a review of our resources and services, including tips and anecdotes.

DNA FOR GENEALOGISTS: DNA for Genealogists Genetic Genealogy - What is yDNA & mtDNA? How it is used to discover more about your family history. Family Health Histories - Using the information from death certificates and other sources to understand your risk factors to health conditions and diseases.

ENGLAND BEGINNERS: The cornerstones of research are Birth, Marriage and Death records and census returns. This session will explore different sources for these records and how their content can expand your family tree.

ENGLAND - READING WILLS: AN Introduction to Understanding and Translating English wills in the 1400 to 1600 Period. A beginners guide to English Wills and how the arrival of English as the accepted language and their Reformation changed their style. Also included is a beginners guide to reading the English "how they was writ" and how to present the document in a readable text.

FAMILY HISTORY BEGINNERS: Starting your family history journey on the right foot will ensure the adventure is more enjoyable, productive and manageable.

FAMILY HISTORY CENTRES: The Family History Centres are a constantly growing source for assistance in pursuing your genealogy. Learn of the many avenues to search as well as the materials both in hard copy and on the internet that are available for free at the Family History Centres. This presentation will highlight the necessity of using original rather than transcribed material which frequently contain errors.

FAMILY HISTORY INTERNET SITES: Records are available for various places around the world including Canada, USA, UK, Netherlands, and more. This seminar will highlight sites that are free.

FAMILYSEARCH INDEXING: As an Indexer you will be participating in the greatest genealogical and family history program in the world. From a batch of names with their information (from a census or from other records the Church has microfilmed and digitized) you extract the information in each record and enter it into a computer program. You then upload that batch to the main computer server in Salt Lake and it goes into the main data base used by people searching for their ancestors.

FINDING PLACES IN GERMANY AND EASTERN EUROPE: It takes a few special tricks to find places in Germany and points east. The researcher can save time by consulting the best sources. This lecture includes several samples from the problems Dave has been asked to solve over the years. Includes a list of Web sites to use.

FINDING YOUR NORWEGIAN ANCESTORS: Tips and Aids to navigate the Norwegian census, vital records and community histories.

FOLLOWING THE CANADIAN TRAIL: Canada: East to West Research: Newcomers to Canada settled first in eastern regions of the continent. Following generations headed west in their quest for land. Connect your family's migration path through genealogy research. Major and minor sources in Federal, Provincial and Library records.

FREE INTERNET SITES AT FHC: Explore subscription sites offered free at our Family History Centres. They are most valuable for USA research but there are good sources for many other parts of the world – ie. England 1861, 1881 and 1891 Census, USA Census with images 1790-1930, Freedman bank records, revolutionary war pension, many books, biographies, original documents, and databases that can be searched and downloaded.

GENEALOGY TO STAND THE TEST OF TIME: How valid is a pedigree which is primarily based on information downloaded from the internet? What can to be done to ensure that your genealogical research can be safely relied on by others, now and in the future? Learn how to access and properly document the best possible sources.

HOW GOOD WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS? GATHERING ORAL HISTORY: After we consolidate all the information our family files hold, we track down living relatives. Interview skills are essential to the success of mining these rich deposits of family lore. These skills also support our approaches to librarians and archivists. Small groups are able to practice some interview techniques.

INTRODUCTION TO FRENCH-CANADIAN RESEARCH: A Discussion of research methods used in parish and civil records.

IRELAND BEGINNERS: This is an introduction to Irish research. Though Ireland is part of the British Isles, finding your roots can be a challenge. This talk will focus on the usual records and where they are located.

IRELAND - DIGGING A LITTLE DEEPER: This Irish session explores other records that are available to family historians.

LATIN AMERICA: Open the doors to our ancestors. How to find information for Latin American ancestors including: where to find information, which documents are available , how to use the family history library catalogue, and more.

LDS NEW TEMPLE READY: This class is for LDS members who want to learn how to prepare and submit names to the Temple using the New Temple Ready.

LEGACY: Learn what's new in Legacy Family Tree 7.0. Learn how to enter vital information and events to generate timelines and plot your family the map, interview relatives and write personal histories, records sources of information like a professional using the new SourceWriter, print charts with the new Legacy Charting program, and more.

ONTARIO ONLINE AND OFFLINE: Get the most from your research using on-line and off-line sources. Topics include: Vital, Church, Census and Land Records, as well as wills and estates. Various on-line databases such as: Marriage, Divorce and naturalization etc. will be visited.

ORGANIZING YOUR FAMILY HISTORY: The key to family history is to be organized. Come and see how to organize your files and family history using a colour coding system

PIECING THE PUZZLE: How to search across several sites simultaneously in order to cross check and corroborate information. Catherine will show you how she solved a longstanding family puzzle by finding clues in old photographs, and then searching between birth, death and marriage sites, census sites, newspaper sites, school register sites and cemetery sites. This presentation is full of tips on how to set search objectives, what to look for in indices and digital images, how analyze your findings, and finally how to "piece the puzzle".

PLANNING A TRIP TO SALT LAKE CITY: if a research trip to Salt Lake City is on your list of 'things to do', then this session is for you. Learn the best time to go, what to bring, what to wear, and what to do.

SEARCH FOR OUR FOREMOTHERS - A CASE STUDY - SARAH BOWEN SMITH: In our culture, from fathers and brothers to husbands and sons, women change their names according to the men to whom they link their lives. The challenge for family historians is to find women's stories despite the name changes. This Canadian pioneer's case study takes participants through the myriad documents about the men in her life to find the essential Sarah.

SCOTLAND BEGINNERS- RESEARCHING YOUR SCOTTISH ANCESTORS: Getting Started, and Making Progress. An informative seminar exploring the many different types of records and resources that are available for tracing your Scottish ancestors at your local Family History Centre, and Online. Find out what they are, where they can be found, and how to research them.

SCOTLANDSPEOPLE WEBSITE: This session will explore the various databases available through the website, what it costs to access those records, as well other resources and links that will help further your Scottish family history research. We will be online with this website during the session.

TWO DOZEN (OR MORE) WAYS TO RESEARCH GERMANS FROM RUSSIA: For many years, researchers had great difficulty researching these roots. Today, a huge amount of material is available, if you know where to look. Includes a list of Web sites to use

USA: Understanding the census allows you to milk every drop of information from it. Every line is a valuable road map that leads to additional records.

WHAT IS IN THE PARISH CHEST?: A look at parish sources other than church registers and how they can illuminate your family history. Includes an examination of the influence of the Poor Law on everyone in the community.
