The Picards, brother and sister (Nos. 80 and 61) are among the celebrated
cases of centenarianism. In 1876, a biographical notice, which went the round of
the press, spoke of François Picard as having then reached the age of 109, and
added: "His father died at 108 and his mother at 104 years of age. He has a
sister at, Quebec, who is 107, and a daughter who is nearly 90; he is in
possession of all his faculties, &c." Now, Augustin Picard alias
Destroismaisons, was the son of Augustin Picard and of Charlotte Maret alias
Marotte. Augustin and Françoise, his sister, were in fact born at an interval of
two years between the two, as related by the chronique; but neither one nor the
other was a centenarian. Augustin was born in 1779 and Françoise in 1781, as
reported in the table, with the months and the dates taken from the Registers.

The case of Marie Josephte Tapin (No. 75) is another case of mistaken identity.
The father and mother, Jean Baptiste Tapin and Marie Frochot, were married on
the 29th January, 1731, each of them being, twenty-five years old; had their
first child a girl, baptised by, the name of Maiie-Josephte, on the 15th
November, 1731, having been born the day previous. This child having died on the
6th of December of the same year, the same name of Marie-Josephte was given to
the subject of this note, who was the fifth child in the family, and was born on
the 6th of February, 1741.

Remarks: Marie-Therese (No. 76), an Indian woman of the Iroquois tribe, and
having, for her Indian individual name Kanonouiiostha, was the daughter of
Michel Skanaouati and Marie Anne Tsièionha. She was the third child of six
brothers and sisters. The record of her marriage with Pierre Atsinaton, her
husband, was not found, it having probably been celebrated elsewhere than at St.
Regis or Sault St. Louis. No doubt can possibly exist on the identity of
Theresa, which has been established by the Missionaries and ancients of St.
Regis and Sault St. Louis, and the relatives of the centenarian woman. At the
time of the enquiry there was, still living, a relative of hers, almost
octogenarian, who had been acquainted with bar and her family since his
infancy.

Remarks: The case of Marie Geneviéve Vallée (No. 80) is another case
of mistaken identity. She had two elder sisters having the same name of Marie
Geneviéve; one born on the 2nd November, 1768, the other born on the
28th December, 1774. Both died when infants. The Geneviéve in question,
the third of the name, succeeded them on the 15th November, 1718. She was the
seventh of the eight children of Joseph Vallée and Marie Angelique Belanger.
