In the case of François Dagneau (No. 15), the record of birth accredited to
this François was conscientiously taken from the registers, but this first
record of the birth of a son François, born to François Dagneau and Veronique
Godreau, was the record of that of a brother, who was born and died in the same
year. The first François was born on the 3rd of December, 1775, and he died on
the 6th of the same month of the same year, being three days old. A year after,
the François of the table succeeded to the name of his older brothers at the
date mentioned in the table, a mistake having been committed in the ideatity of
the person.

Date of First Marriage: 1813-11-15
Died: 1858-11-14 Buried: St. Roch de Québec
Remarks: The case of Descombes (No. 18) has this particular interest, that it
formed the subject of a biographical and obituary notice, published in Le
Journal de l'Instruction Publique, for the year 1858, page 219. In the record of
interment, Pierre Descombes is stated to have been 112 years of age, which would
have shown his birth to have taken place in 1746, The authentic record of his
birth was obtained at the Mairie of Bordeftux, Department of the Gironde,
France, and this record proves that "Pierre, legitimate son of Pierre Descombes,
maitre de bateau, and of Marie Roux of the Parish of St. Michel de Bordeaux,"
was born in January, 1777. The identity is proved by the record of marriage of
Pierre Descombes, who gives the names and Names of his father and mother, and
the name of the parish in which he was born at Bordeaux.

Occupation: Cultivateur
Born 1759-12-23 at Sorel
Age: Alleged: 100 Verified: 103
Died: 1863-02-28 Buried: St. Aimé
Remarks: The ease of François Forcier (No. 27), is one of those rare cases in
which the reputed is less than the real age. He was the eighth of thirteen
brothers and sisters, all following each other at almost regular intervals of
two years. He was the only one of the family who bore the name of François.

FORGUES François Sex: M
Occupation: Journalier
Born 1739-02-24 at Beaumont
Age: Alleged: 120 Verified: 90
Died: 1829-05-16 Buried: Ste. Rose
Remarks: The cases of François Forgues (No. 28) and of Marie-Magdoloine Savard
(No. 72) have this peculiarity, that they were the objects of a special
investigation by an investigator very well known in Canada, Mr. Jacques Viger,
in 1829. His work is, entitled, "Des faux et vrais Centenaires," (Repertoire
National, vol. II., p. 371 and onwards) M. Viger came to the conclusion that
François Forgues dit Monrouges was not a centenarian, and that Magdeleine Savard
must have been a centenarian. This conclusion was correct in the case of
Forgues, the record of whose birth he had been able to find and identify, but it
was incorrect in the case of Magdeleine Savard, which rested on proofs which bad
not the character of certitude required for the verification of a fact. The
record of the birth of Marie-Magdeleine Savard could not be, found. She must
have been baptized in a different parish from that which was the, usual
residence of her parents, or else the
case forms part of those very rare omissions referred to in speaking of the
registers of parishes. But there are the records of the marriage of her parents,
Pierre Savard and Marie Bouré, the records of the three
marriages she herself contracted, and the records of the birth of her brothers
and sisters. The Savards, father and mother of Marie-Magdeloine, were married on
the lst March, 1734, and consequently none of their children could have been a
hundred years old in 1829, which at once settles the question. The mother, Marie
Bouré, was only 18, at the date of her marriage, and, therefore, was not at the
age of puberty at the time indicated for the birth of her daughter. In the
table, the birth of Marie-Magdeleine is assigned to the year 1736, because in
the succession of the children in the Pierre Savard - Marie Bouré family, there
are to be found Marie-Marguorite, the oldest of all, born on the 27th December,
1734, and another sister, Marie-Angelique, born on the 30th October, 1738,
leaving between them a vacant space of nearly four years, not occurring with
respect to the rest of the family, the nine children of the Savard-Bouié
household having succeeded each other uninterruptedly at intervals of less than
two years, the last being born on the 11th January, 1748, and the father having
died on the 16th
November, 1749, without leaving any posthumous issue. Marie-Magdeleine Savard
was married on the 18th of April, 1757, to Charles Bonneall, on the 11th
September, 1758, to Jean Baptiste Charles Louis Julien alias Elot, and a third
time to Benjamin Schmarr, a German, on the 6th February, 1787. She,
nevertheless was commonly called widow Julien.
