This site is designed to be a source of genealogical links with a difference. We are limiting the links to the ones that we feel will have the greatest value to researchers – and we are ranking them, with the most important ones are at the top.

The theory behind CanGenealogy is that you shouldn't have to waste a lot of time sifting through thousands of links to find what you are looking for. We provide a digest. Some sites, after all, are more valuable than others. On CanGenealogy, you won't have to dig deep to find the ones that matter the most – they will be at the top of the page. By choice, we don't list every site of interest to family historians working in Canada. Our goal is to help you get to the key sites as quickly as possible. There are other sites that have thousands of genealogical links – and yes, we have links to those sites. If CanGenealogy doesn't help you, with luck we will guide you to sites that do. Some of the inspiration for this site came from Jessica Veinot's Canadian Genealogy and History Links, which has been one of the most valuable resources for Canadian researchers for the past decade. Jessica has always aimed for quality rather than quantity. We are certainly open to suggestions and updates for CanGenealogy. If you know of a site that you feel should be included, please let us know. We will consider any site of general genealogical interest. If it's on one of those miserable freebie sites loaded with pop-up ads, it will need to be exceptional before we will add a link. (In other words, if it's on Tripod or Angelfire, we probably will say no.) We also won't bother if the site's key information is buried. Websites designed for usability don't waste your time with "splash pages," those pages that say "click here to enter" or some such thing.
